A young African-American man, raised in the church, aspires to R&B/Pop stardom along side industry giants like Jay-Z & Jada Kiss, Mary J. Blige & Brian McKnight. So, what makes Ivan Brooks different than all the rest? Swag. And what's propelling him straight to the top, to soon be along side artists like these? Self-motivated determination; His ambition is only matched by his potential. Already, his twenty-four-seven grind is paying off, and everyone's asking, “Who is Ivan Brooks?”
Ivan G. Brooks, Jr. was first noticed for his vocal abilities within his church community, but it was when he met Justin Grahams (a.k.a. Just the Beast, of Sony Records) that he learned the difference between being a singer, and being a recording artist. At age fifteen, ‘Just’ threw Ivan into his first recording booth and helping to mold the future star. Even in his early teen years, Ivan Brooks was already working hard to make his way to the top; balancing school and music, while helping his single mother and three siblings. Despite facing false promises and rejection early on, Ivan's self confidence drove him on.
Those with an ear for music continued to recognize his talent. He was expertly crafted by men like Greyson Waters,-who helped him develop his stage presence, and Reco Burgess of Vengeance Music,-who taught him to feel the music, and discover his sound by showcasing his raspy voice, and soulful flair. At the same time, Ivan took on a job, adding to his already heavy load. Every penny was saved, sacrificing every luxury to fund his fan based tour with Mental Supreme. Everywhere he went, crowd's recognized the R&B prodigy; - crowds turned into fans, and fans became an entourage.
As his status continued to grow, Ivan was noticed by Antoine Allen of Urban Threshold. A man who “knows how to get you heard,” Allen showcased Ivan Brooks to the greater underground music scene. He appeared at the A&R Summit, winning Best R&B Male of the Year at the Annual Underground Music Awards in 2008, - often referred to as “the Grammy's of underground music.” During this time, Ivan is making a name for himself along the East coast, in New York and Boston.
Next stop: L.A. After conquering the East coast underground, Ivan Brooks jet –set West; walking the red carpet at the pre-Emmy's, and rubbing shoulders with stars like, Jamie Fox and Dr. Dre. This taste of Hollywood only inspired Ivan to grind harder, seeking recognition and a larger fan base in his home town of Providence, RI.
Ivan Brooks hit the Providence music circuit, headlining Premier Night at Club Element, playing a Haiti Relief show, and getting spins on local radio stations 95.5 WBRU, and Hot 106.3, causing his presence to be recognized by his city. Ivan then met Wande Davis, who played the role of publicist, and took on his current manager’s Johann Rodriguez and Tiffany Fong of Good Lyfe Entertainment. All his hard work paid off, generating enough buzz in the music scene that he was again nominated for Best R&B Male of the Year in 2009.
Now, Ivan Brooks has reunited with 'Just the Beast' and is working around the best of the best. He has put the polish on himself as a performer and is making big moves; traveling and striving for his dreams. He is currently finishing his documentary, ‘What it takes: The Grind of Ivan Brooks’, and is preparing to release his next single, with producer’s Beat Advocatez and Cyrus Deshield.
