Golden Winners
By Ron Rego 1-14-12
“Homeland,” “Girls,” “Argo” and “Les
Miserables” took home a lot of hardware at
the Golden Globes and were the clear big
winners. “Homeland” took the best TV
Drama category over shows like “Mad Men”
and “Boardwalk Empire.” Not only that, but it
also took home for best actor by Damian
Lewis and best actress by Claire Danes.
“Girls” did well in the TV category as well
winning for best comedy or musical and best actress in a comedy or musical by Lena Dunham. That was a big surprise as the category was filled with some favorites. Zooey Deschanel, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler rounded out the nominees and all could have won.
The movie awards were dominated by “Argo” and “Les Miserables.” “Argo”
took home best movie drama and best director (Ben Affleck). “Les
Miserables” did even better winning three awards that include best comedy
or musical, best actor (Hugh Jackman) and best supporting actress (Anne
Hathaway). Daniel Day Lewis won for best actor in a drama for his role as
Abe Lincoln. Jessica Chastain won for her role in “Zero Dark Thirty” for best
actress in a drama.
The Golden Globes are a good indication of the Oscars and gives Ben
Affleck a shot at taking home a couple more trophies to add to his case. “Les Miserable” is almost a shoe in for an Oscar or two. We hope that one day our Havenshine Awards will be as important. So fans, go vote on the Fan’s Choice awards.

I have had many conversations about A list actors and have often
said that Havenshine should have celebrity profiles and list those
great actors. I recently came across a list of the ten most overpaid
actors and couldn’t believe Denzel Washington was on that list. So I
thought I would look at his recent movies to see what that list gripes
were about him.
Since 2000, Denzel Washington has had 16 movies which I have
seen all but one (The Great Debaters). I did not care too much for
Out of Time, but the rest of those movies were good if not great
movies. Starting with Remember the Titans in 2000 which is one of
the greatest sports movies of all-time, and his most recent movie
Flight. Flight was a fantastic movie and certainly was not over paid for that movie or the past twelve years. Training Day, American Gangster, John Q, The Book of Eli, Inside Man, Déjà vu. Really? Overpaid? Despite all these great movies, which would make him an A-lister, before 2000 he had some incredible movies as well.
The Hurricane which was a great boxing movie was in
1999 and I remember seeing that movie in the theater
and was one of my favorites from ‘99. How about The
Bone Collector also in ’99 and Courage Under Fire. If
that isn’t enough we can go back to 1993 with Tom
Hanks in Philadelphia or The Pelican Brief with Julia
Roberts. There was Malcom X or one of the greatest
displays of acting in Glory. He won an Oscar for his
role in Glory as a supporting actor and also won for best actor in 2001 for Training Day. He was also nominated for three other Oscars during his career. He was nominated for seven Golden Globes winning two of them, one for Glory and the other for The Hurricane.
He will have a busy schedule as he has six projects in the works including “2 Guns” due to be released in 2013 and at least 2 others in 2014.

Television has lost yet another
icon. This past week we lost
Larry Hagman who recently
revised his legendary role of
J.R. Ewing. The “Dallas” and “I
Dream of Jeanie” star died from
complications of cancer. The
81 year old star will be remembered this week during private, invitation-only services in Dallas and Los Angeles.
Hagman became an advocate for organ donation and anti-smoking efforts after two serious bouts with serious diseases. In 1992 he was diagnosed with cirrhosis of the liver and announced he did drink heavily for many years. Then in 1995, a malignant tumor was discovered on his liver and he underwent a transplant. He had been filming the new edition of “Dallas” for TNT and we have not heard from producers as of yet to what will happen with that role.

I think Ray Bradbury needs to be in the "HALL OF FAME" Ron.
I think Ray Bradbury needs to be in the "HALL OF FAME" Ron.
Ray Bradbury passed away this morning in LA at the age of 91. He wrote so many literary classics in the sci fi gengre. Farenheit 451, the Martian Chronicles, Something Wicked This Way Comes... just a few. I remember watching the Martian Chronicles mini series on TV with my dad...wild stuff. He was definitely a leader in the sci fi world of literature.
With all the celebrities getting busted, fans should take advantage of the fantasy celebrity police blotter
RIP for Elizabeth Taylor...she's a beautiful lady...
Elizabeth Taylor was in a class by herself.
AAAAAAARRRRRRRRgggggggggggHHHHHh...SyFy cancels SGU :(
What a public figure does on their own time is up to them...I don't care what Miley was doing at the party... It's her life. Now if she was doing it on stage I'd be upset. I'm more upset at whoever decided they should blab all about it and post vids... get a life... stop looking for negatives in someone elses life!
hmmmm i think ...first the mentality and good religion is more important and then parents caring and support for the young star....

I just read that Human Target has a better than 50/50 chance of returning. (TV Guide) - so fingers crossed.
Apparently Law & Order's fate is tied to how much TNT is willing to pay for the reruns...so we will have to wait on that one. (TV Guide)
I think Human Target is a great show. I would hate to see it go but Fox is bad with not giving shows a chance to get going, often cancelling shows way to early. I always hate when a show I like is on Fox...before they even start they have a good chance of being cancelled.
