“End Times”

Season 1, Episode 10

We have reached the Finale of the First Season of Continuum, ten episodes is just not enough!!!! I totally hope that the show has another season because it is brilliant and can see it going well… fingers crossed!! And now on with the review…

The episode begins with a Previously on and then a memory from the future, their past…This time we are with Travis and Chen and they are on some sort of helipad waiting for Garza, they are shooting at the people following them, this part when Garza arrives and Travis and Chen make it off the building just before it explodes was brilliantly done, very awesome, from there the camera moved and we can see Keira in the window of a nearby building as she watches on, we then zoom in to see that she is in Kagame’s office as they’ve just arrested him, so we have just watched the other half of a scene we saw from the future in a previous episode. Next Kagame is in a prison cell and talking to someone on the other side of the wall… Then the scene changes until the now and Sonya approaches Kagame saying Happy Birthday and handing him a book. He tells her he has something for her too and hands her a key, he explains that she will find the answers to her questions there and to keep it between them.

Then we’re with Keira as she wakes up on Kellog’s yacht, she opens his safe and then heads up top to where Kellog is in the kitchen, she says to him that this never happened and then leaves the boat, I loved the way Kellog was like “She’ll be back” – As strange as it is, I kinda like the whole thing between Keira and Kellog. Off the yacht Keira gets a call from Carlos, whose on his first day back after being shot and needs her to come in, then she is on the phone Alec who is re-setting up all his equipment and has been trying to find Julian, he tells her he’ll let her know when he finds anything, then he goes to tell her about the information he found whilst hacking her CMR but before he can there is static and the call cuts out. Then we are back with Liber8 and Lucas informs Kagame that the cell service is down and it’ll take them hours to get it back online.

The scene then changes to a guy wandering the streets and warning people… was great to see the familiar face of Ian Tracey who is an absolutely brilliant actor and been in so many different shows, love his work! He approaches a few people and ramble a warning about today being the beginning of the end, then he approaches Keira as she walks by, he continues his ramblings but she tells him to stop following her but then he says that he knows her and that she was at the execution, this gets Keira’s attention and she turns back to him and he tells her that he’s like her… From the future! Then we have the beginning credits, although not the full credits just Continuum is thrown up and we go straight back to the episode… Keira is now talking with the man and he is telling her his story, how he was at the execution and then next thing he arrived back in 1992, spent a few years in a nut house… I loved how he poked her arm and goes “Just making sure you’re real”

Then we are back with Liber8 and Travis is questioning Kagame about Sonya and where she has gone, there seems to be tension between the two of them. Then we go to the Police Station where Carlos is in Dillon’s office with another man and they are going over information about Liber8 and the explosive material that they seem to have gained and how they have enough to take down half of the downtown core. Then Betty enters and reports that the cell service is still down. Then the scene changes to Alec and information comes up on his screens and says he found someone. Then we’re back with Keira and the other guy, who we learn his name is Jason, he tells her that there are other ‘Time Jumpers’ here and Keira mentions Liber8 and Jason didn’t know they were there too he mentions a name to her ‘Mr. Esher’ she doesn’t seem to recognise it, but then Alec is back online and he starts talking to her Jason is confused as she has a conversation with Alec as he tells her that he has found Julian, Keira tells him about the explosives and that Julian might be involved, Alec makes a comment about Roland’s death and then pretends to lose the connection with her and takes off. As that conversation finishes Jason mentions to her that he’s been working on a time machine.

The scene then changes and we are with Sonya as she has a safety deposit box and is escorted to a room, she opens it up and it is filled with money, some diamonds and a letter, she reads the letter and we see the look on her face before the scene changes to the rest of Liber8 as Travis asks Garza and Lucas if they know where Sonya is, they don’t know either, then the doorbell rings and they go answer it and it is Julian. Next scene changes and we are with Keira and she enters Jason’s place, outside of a window she can see the bridge where she arrived in the past, he explains to her that he needs a something for the machine to work but it won’t be invented for a while, she then asks him if he believes in destiny and she pulls out the piece of the device that she just stole back from Kellog. He takes the piece and studies it for a bit before he says that she must be CPS and he comments that she could be there to arrest him, she tells him that she just wants to go home.

Back at the police station Carlos is talking with her other man about Keira, who hasn’t arrived yet and he seems very curious as to why she would even be there helping with the task force and wonders why he hasn’t heard of it before… uh oh! He then picks up a phone and we learn that his name is Gardner, he asks the person on the other line to look into Section Six as he has never heard of it before. Back with Keira and Jason she looks at a sculpture replica he has and calls it the memorial but Jason corrects her and says that it becomes the memorial today, then Keira remembers that in their past it was the first attack on the city and that thousands of people were killed, then she realises that in was today in 2012 that it happened, then Jason says that its why they need to leave now, but then Keira says that she really does want to go home, but that she can’t leave if there is something she can do to stop it from happening.

The scene then changes and we are with Julian and Kagame and they are talking about his father dying before Julian tells him that he wants to stop them and that he is willing to do whatever it takes. They speak about doing something that will change everything and Kagame says that it will. We then see Alec arrive outside the house and then Travis approaches him and brings him inside to the others, Kagame tells Garza to take him and next she is cable tying him to a chair. Outside we see Kagame and Julian chatting as Lucas and Travis finish off setting up a bomb in the back of a van, then Kagame opens the door for Julian to get in, he tells him that everyone will know his name after this. Then we are back with Keira and Jason and he tells her that they were all sent back for a reason and that it was an inside job, they then leave Jason’s as Keira thinks over the information he just gave her.

Then back with Liber8, Kagame comes up to talk with Alec, he mentions that they had a similar conversation as this in the future, when Alec asks if he was tied to a chair then Kagame responds that no he wasn’t, but that he was. He tells Alec about how he had explained that he imagined someone could get a message to their younger self and offer them wisdom and knowledge that might take the course of their life. Kagame tells Alec that he doesn’t understand how important he is he then explains to him that if a pebble hitting the ocean can cause a tsunami on the other side then Alec is that pebble… interesting way of putting it! Alec then comes back with his own view and says that if he is that pebble then progress and innovation is the wave and it will make the world a better place, then Kagame says that that is his point and that Alec is the one that convinced him he can…

Then we are back with Keira and Jason as they look at the real memorial sculpture, they are trying to remember which building was the one that killed all those people, but neither of them remember exactly which building it was. Back at the station with Carlos he is watching Gardner on the phone who finds out that Keira is not who she says she is and then he comments that she could be working for Liber8. The next scene is Keira and Jason entering one of the building and saying they need to evacuate, she gets Dillon on the phone and then we see Dillon in his office with Carlos and Gardner as Betty tells him Keira is on the phone, he has her on speaker and she explains about needing to evacuate but Gardner then steps in and says it is now a matter of national security and he is taking over. Dillon tells Keira he’ll take care of it and then hangs up, Gardner then says they’ll get bomb squad down there and he and Carlos go off to the plaza to meet Keira. Back with Liber8, Sonya returns and Travis enquires where she’s been and then as they talk we see Alec upstairs alone as he attempts to escape, downstairs Travis is really agitated and pushes Sonya against the wall, then we see Alec has managed to free himself from the chair. As Alec comes down the stairs he then goes to leave but notices information on the table so looks, Travis is then talking about how he thinks that they were sent back 65 years and not 6 on purpose and that it was Kagame’s plan all along. We then see Alec take a look at their plans, he is able to see that they plan on blowing up the West Tower. When Sonya says that they have to trust Kagame, Travis walks away from her and then we see that Alec was able to get out of the house without being noticed.

Then we are back in the plaza as Carlos and Gardner arrive to meet Keira, Gardner won’t allow them to evacuate without Keira saying where she got the information from, then Jason joins them and says it was him who helped her remember because they are from the future… Hmmm! But then the security guys calls them over about an unauthorised vehicle they look at the screen and see Julian in the van, they then start getting people out. Then we are with Julian in the van, he gets the device Kagame gave him and is about to push the button but the cops surround the van, which is actually a ute with a cab over the back – whoops! Anyway, they surround it and Julian pushes the button but nothing happens and the cops grab him. Up top, Keira and Carlos are helping with the evacuation and the SWAT leader advices them that detonator wasn’t attached to the bomb and that it had been neutralised, then Gardner heads over to Keira and says they were going to talk, but then his phone rings, he answers and comes back to Keira saying that he spoke to her boss Mr Esher, he advises her that he is to cooperate fully with section six from now on, he then excuses himself. Carlos comments that he would like to meet her boss and shake his hand and as he walks away Keira says “So would I”.

Jason is then looking at the sculpture and says that they changed history and then comments on how the time machine is waiting for them, Keira says she’ll meet him there and when he leaves Carlos comes over he looks after Jason and comments “Let me guess, it’s complicated?” Heehee yup, extremely! :) Next Julian is in the back of a cop car and Kagame opens the door, he explains that the bomb was never supposed to go off and then he leaves. Alec then arrives at the scene and see’s Keira, he tells her that its building two and that Julian was just a diversion, then Keira sees Kagame and runs after him, she stops him before he enters the lift and when she asks about the bomb he reveals it strapped to him, she tells him that he doesn’t have to do it and that they can change history but he says that this is his role to play in the larger plan and when Keira asks whose plan, Alec enters the building and Kagame says “His”, Kagame says there’s no time to explain and the bomb will go off either way, he tells her Alec will explain and when she turns to Alec, Kagame enters the life and then Alec pulls her away to exit the building.

Outside the SWAT leader tells Carlos that Kagame was seen entering Building Two, but before anything else is said we see Kagame take his finger off the button and the building explodes, we see Keira and Alec exit as Carlos takes cover behind the sculpture, then we see Keira create a protective bubble around herself and Alec, Gardner sees this before he takes cover with Carlos just as a beam crashes into the sculpture and the building collapses. Next we see Carlos and Gardner come out from the rubble, then Keira and Alec emerge from the rubble, Keira is wearing only her suit as she looks around at all the devastation, Gardner is watching her not believing his eyes and then Alec tells her to go and she turns invisible and disappears. Next scene is Sonya walking through a hospital hallway she enters a room where Mrs Kagame is there with her newborn son. She pulls out an envelope and says that a friend asks her to give it to her, she tells her she can’t answer her questions and then leans down and gives the baby a kiss before saying thank-you and exiting the room tears in her eyes.

Travis is watching her as she leaves and then approaches her she pulls him aside and she explains that Kagame was in the building and that Kagame was there, down the hall she then tells him that Kagame asked her to make arrangements for his mother and for him and that he asked her to succeed him, she then pulls a gun on him and we hear a shot go off and then the scene changes to Keira entering Jason’s place, they speak about not changing anything and then she asked to see the time machine, he shows her and then starts fiddling with things as she discretely picks up the piece of the device… Heehee, okay Jason with the fail mask thin on, I was laughing so hard at how stupid that looked, brilliant! :) Jason starts explaining things to her and she slowly backs out of the place. Then she is next entering Kellog’s yacht, she asks if he had anything to do with what had happened and he replied with “No, not this year, not in 2076, I told you I was just a pawn”, she tells him about her cover almost being blown and asks if he had anything to do with it as it wasn’t Alec, he says it wasn’t him and then she mentions she can’t change history after all. Then we are back in the future memory, where Kagame is in his cell as the older Alec arrives to talk to him, Kagame says “You’re alive” and says that he knew what was going to happen and that it will all become clear to him, he sits the time travel device on the table and then asks “Have you ever stood on a beach and faced an oncoming tsunami” Ahhh, so that makes more sense now! ;)

Then we are with Alec and he is looking at the folder named ‘To Alec 2012, Read Me First’ he clicks on it and puts in the password ‘THESEUS’ it opens up with the future Sadler symbol and then coding which then starts typing “From Alec Sadler 2077, I speak to yo...” as it continues we only see Alec’s expression. Then back in the future/past with Kagame he is speaking to someone and says “You have taught me everything I know” and asks if he can trust someone, the other person says “My brother?” and we then see that he is speaking with the future Julian, who tells him he should do as Alec says. The scene then changes to Alec in the now as he starts talking to Keira, he tells her that her journey to the past was no accident and that he is the one that sent her back in time, he tells her that she won’t believe why and then the episode finishes with her standing on the yacht as it drives off…

Brilliant Episode and Wow, I really hope it gets picked up for a Season Two because it is an amazing show so far!! Fingers crossed for a Season TWO!!!! But for now, thanks to everyone involved for such a brilliant first season, you guys are amazing!
