We were camping at Fraser national park in victoria. About 2 hours from where I live. The first pic is a view of lake eildon. It's a huge man made lake. You can see the effect 10 years of drought has had. The water used to come up to where I'm standing. If you look at the hill to the left of the pic. You can see the start of the treeline. That's how full it once was.

The second pic was of a visitor we had to our campsite during tea (dinner) one night. We had prepared all the vegies for the big stew we make, and were all standing around the camp fire, when one of the blokes noticed this 'roo helping himself to a carrot. In Australia we love to shorten our words. Hence we say G'day instead if good day. We call kangaroos just roo's here.

This third pic is of a kookaburra. We tend to call them kookas. This one had just polished off one of my snags, that's slang for a sausage, that I was having for lunch. He flew down and took it right off the plate that was sitting on my lap!

All the best Rob

Here im overlooking the beach at port douglas, a tourist town, about an hours drive away from cairns. Below are some of the locals...crocodiles are protected in Australia, there numbers have grown dramatically, over the last few years. you do not go swimming in any of the rivers..not even the ones that run through Cairns.

  3. most times 'roos will hop away from you if you approach them. However you will find at some camping sites, that people have been feeding them so there not afraid to come right up to you. generally as a rule, there not dangerous, but as with people you might get one having a bad day, and they will have a go at you. they fight usually by leaning back on their tail, then, they will kick you with there back legs. with the big claws, they can do some serious damage to you in they connect.
